The purpose of this project was to find the optimal location to place a new homeless and employment resource center in Edmonton, Alberta. To do so we ran a number of different spatial analysis on data at the neighborhood level, combining the results into a scoring index to determine which neighborhood was the best fit.

Parameters Analyzed

  • Locations of reported homeless encampments

  • Unemployment rate by neighborhood

  • Walking distance to nearest existing resource center

  • Walking distance to LRT stations

Types of Analysis

  • Cluster and Hotspot analysis on encampments per neighborhood, as well as unemployment rate

  • Network Analysis to create walking distance buffers from nearest facilities/LRT stations
